THINGS TO DO IN THE BUSTLING SEASIDE CITY OF BRIGHTON & HOVE
We love Brighton and are incredibly proud of its diverse and welcoming residents. Here is an ‘insiders’ guide to a few of the things you can do in our lovely city. Each one of our Fab Houses has an extensive “Welcome Pack’ with a great guide of the best things to do near you.
The Palace Pier
The traditional seaside pier, with the usual rides, slot machines and a restaurant/bar in the middle. A must for every tourist.
The Plotting Parlour
A wonderful little speak easy style bar tucked away in a side street but very central in Kemp Town if you can find it! For probably the best cocktails in Brighton.
The Gingerman
The first and in our opinion best of the Ginger chain, small and cosy great for an intimate dinner date.
Snoopers Paradise
This is quirky and very Brighton, a building full of mixture of jumble, eclectic used finds and maybe the odd needle in a haystack.
Pride
Brighton Pride is famous worldwide and partygoers descend on the city for the two-day festival, kicked off by the amazing carnival style procession.
Coffeetzar
Really fantastic coffee, light bites and cakes to die for. Owned and run by a very friendly chap called Idon, Coffeetzar now has a second site opened in Kemp Town, highly recommended.
The North Laines
Here you can find quirky and individual boutique shops and vintage clothing, ideal for that unique find.
Komedia
For great comedy and other events take a trip to Komedia in the North Laines. The renowned Krater comedy club has a whole host of fantastic comedians weekly.
Brighton i360 Observation Tower
See Brighton and beyond from 162m in the air, dubbed by locals as the donut. The views are amazing on a clear day.
L’Atelier Du Vin
This lovely wine and cocktail bar serves the best cocktails in the North Laines Parisian style. Small and cosy, book ahead for larger groups.
Mange Tout
Amazing French cuisine, great for breakfast and lunch.
In the North Laines a lovely quirky little coffee shop with fabulous coffee and snacks.
Hotel du Vin
Lovely French cuisine near the seafront in central Brighton, also has a lovely bar area that does great cocktails.
Foodies Festival
Several foodie festivals take place on Hove lawns during the summer months, great fun for those gastronomes among us.
MyHotel
Great larger bar in central Brighton, with a contemporary look and great cocktails, busy at weekends.
The Brighton Pavilion
Tour the historic Brighton Pavilion, once the residence of the Price Regent, Brighton’s first ‘bad boy’ who turned Brighton into the playground of the well-heeled!
The South Lanes
Famous for its little jewellery shops in what would have been fishermen’s cottages, follow the small winding little pathways around this fascinating area.
Brighton & Hove Albion
Just situated to the north east of the city is the famous AMEX stadium, home to Brighton & Hove Albion, better known to the locals as ‘The Seagulls’ football club.
Planet India
A little off beat and situated off the level. An excellent family run vegetarian Indian restaurant, quirky and authentic.
Browns Restaurant
Slap bang in the centre of town, a large and busy restaurant, where the quality is great.
Bar Valentino
Frequented by locals, this small and cosy cocktail bar has a great view over the Pavilion gardens, with a small balcony terrace for summer relaxing.
The Regency
The locals favourite, one of the best fish restaurants in Brighton, famous for their fish platter dish for two!
Regency Architecture
Enjoy the splendour of Regency architecture and take a visit to look at the famous Brunswick Square and Adelaide Crescent, both masterpieces of the period.
The Magic of Thailand Festival
Held in Preston Park during the summer, here the best food and culture that Thailand has to offer, always great fun, just sit back and relax.
Mucky Duck
Lovely pub in central Kemp Town, great for Sunday roasts.
The Ivy
A relatively new addition, super posh and quite pricey but you will dine in great surroundings in central Brighton.
The Mock Turtle Tea Shop
A Brighton institution sited very centrally in Pool Valley, for the best afternoon tea served how your Grandmother would make it.
East Street
For more upmarket retailers head to East Street which is a great run of shops heading down to the sea front.
Paddle Round The Pier
Another locals favourite is paddle round the pier, an annual summer event where sea worthy, or less so, rafts are paddled round the pier all in the name of charity.
The Walrus
A great pub in the South Lanes which is on several levels, quirky and very Brighton.
Chilli Pickle
A great take on the Indian restaurant, more authentic and less chicken vindaloo. A great choice of food, with lovely surroundings.
Brighton Fringe
An annual event lasting a whole month from May to June, showcasing the best comedy, music and pretty much anything else you can think of.
Patterns Club
Situated centrally on the seafront near the pier, on two levels and great fun.
Solera
A small and romantic little Spanish tapas bar, for small groups or couples only and book ahead.
Small Batch
Another Brighton created coffee chain with a handful of sites around Brighton. Highly regarded by the locals and serving really wonderful coffee.
Churchill Square
The main shopping centre where you will find all of the high street brands situated south of Western Road.
Brighton Marina
Take a trip to the marina, which also has many great restaurants overlooking the sea. You could even day a trip out in a boat from here.
Concorde 2
Situated in what is left of the old arches on Madeira Drive, a lively music venue with great acts weekly.
OhSo Social Bar
Right on the beach, a great bar to go to in the summer months.
Cote
Large and lovely French restaurant opposite the Brighton Dome, but book ahead for large groups.
Brighton Speed Trials
For those petrol heads, an annual event held on Madeira Drive, despite the Council’s health & safety departments best efforts. Take a vehicle and see how fast it will go in a straight line!
